According to The Information, citing people familiar with the matter, Microsoft plans to launch its new Maia 300 artificial intelligence chip this fall, potentially as early as September.
IT Home learned from the original report that Microsoft initially launched the Maia series of AI chips in November 2023 to support large-scale cloud AI services and other applications. However, the company's chips have lagged behind competitors in large-scale deployment.
Meanwhile, Microsoft is negotiating with TSMC to secure production capacity for Maia 300, targeting delivery of at least 300,000 chips in 2027. Microsoft hopes to reduce its reliance on NVIDIA chips through its self-developed AI chips and enhance its competitiveness in the AI sector.
In addition, Microsoft hopes to significantly increase production of Maia chips and wants companies such as Anthropic to adopt its own chip products.
As of press time, Microsoft had not responded to requests for comment.
