Thibault Sottiaux, head of the OpenAI Codex & ChatGPT team, posted on X today in response to users' recent reports of unusually rapid usage consumption. He said quotas would be reset tomorrow for all Codex subscribers.
According to Thibault, they have currently identified three issues affecting usage calculations:
a: Efficiency issues occur when images are used during long sessions with multiple context compactions;
b: Usage at the P95 and higher percentiles for Computer History is relatively high;
c: A feature originally used to generate conversation titles consumes slightly more usage than expected.
OpenAI has formed a dedicated team to investigate these issues and plans to roll out fixes tomorrow. The company has also identified an entirely new approach to improve usage efficiency, which is completely unrelated to the issues above, and will begin developing it next week.
In addition, OpenAI will reset quotas for all subscribers at around 14:00 tomorrow Pacific Time.
