Anthropic and OpenAI to Surpass Google as Broadcom's Top Two AI ASIC Customers

Anthropic and OpenAI are expected to deploy 10GW and 5GW of Broadcom chips, respectively, in 2028. Broadcom expects its AI semiconductor revenue to continue doubling.

Anthropic and OpenAI to Surpass Google as Broadcom's Top Two AI ASIC Customers

Hock Tan, president and CEO of Broadcom, predicted at the company's FY2026 Q3 earnings call that the two leading AI startups, Anthropic and OpenAI, will surpass Google to become the top two customers of its AI ASIC business.

In FY2026 Q3, Broadcom delivered TPU v7 "Ironwood" chips in volume to Anthropic and Google. It also moved ahead of MediaTek to begin production deliveries of Google's eighth-generation TPU: Broadcom is responsible for the inference-optimized TPU v8i, while MediaTek is responsible for the training-optimized TPU v8t. Broadcom also began delivering OpenAI's custom "Jalapeño" chips. Overall, Broadcom's AI semiconductor business reached $16.7 billion in the quarter (approximately RMB 112.499 billion at the current exchange rate), up 221% year over year and 54% sequentially.

In FY2026 Q4, Broadcom expects to accelerate deliveries of TPU v7 "Ironwood" to Anthropic, substantially increase the pace of mass production and delivery of TPU v8i to Google, and begin delivering MTIA-series accelerators to Meta. Broadcom expects AI revenue to reach $21.7 billion in FY2026 Q4 (approximately RMB 146.181 billion at the current exchange rate), up 236% year over year, and $58 billion for the full FY2026 (approximately RMB 390.715 billion at the current exchange rate), up 186% year over year.

Broadcom and Anthropic plan to deploy 1GW of TPU v7 "Ironwood" in 2026 and 5GW of TPU v8i in 2027, followed by an additional 10GW of deployments in 2028. Hock Tan said Anthropic is expected to become Broadcom's largest XPU customer in 2027-2028.

OpenAI, meanwhile, plans to deploy 1.3GW of "Jalapeño" in 2027 and more than 5GW of "Jalapeño" and its successor, which is nearing tape-out, in 2028. Development of OpenAI's third-generation XPU is also underway. OpenAI is expected to become Broadcom's second-largest XPU customer.

In addition, over the 16 months from now through the end of 2027, Broadcom will deliver three generations of MTIA accelerators to Meta. The total scale of these products will reach 3GW by the end of 2028.

From a broader perspective, Broadcom expects AI semiconductor revenue to reach approximately $115 billion and $230 billion in 2027 and 2028, respectively, continuing to double. Broadcom has secured the upstream supply needed to achieve these targets.
