According to a report by tech media outlet Windows Report yesterday, an independent game developer recently said that they discovered a player using Google Gemini to search for information about a game their studio is developing, which unexpectedly revealed a possible data leak.
In its response, Gemini provided the name of an unreleased character, “Vantage Tripod.” The developer said that this character existed only in a private Google Docs document, had never been uploaded to a public channel, and was not stored in the game files.
Google responded that it does not scan private Google Docs documents or use them to train Gemini models. Gemini only accesses Workspace files when users actively make a request.
Google also stated: “If someone posts a link to a public document on the internet, those web pages may be discovered and indexed by search engine crawlers. Users have complete control over the permissions for Workspace files.”
We still do not know how Gemini learned this unreleased information, and the true cause of the incident remains under investigation.
