Caitlin Kalinowski’s LinkedIn profile shows that the expert who previously led OpenAI’s robotics project has joined Anthropic as a technical staff member, working on research.
Her personal website shows that Caitlin is a veteran executive in hardware and robotics. She advises early-stage teams developing at the intersection of hardware, robotics, and artificial intelligence, and serves on the board of Axon.
Previously, she led OpenAI’s robotics hardware business, Meta’s AR / VR hardware business, and Apple’s Mac Pro and MacBook Air projects.
Caitlin’s arrival suggests that Anthropic is exploring research in robotics / physical AI.
In June this year, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman posted a recruitment notice for OpenAI Robotics on X, saying that the company was hiring outstanding full-stack hardware, operations, systems, and machine learning engineers to develop and build robots that are useful to human society.
Altman said that artificial intelligence should be able to help humans in the real world. In the short term, OpenAI is focused on using robots to help skilled workers build the infrastructure of the future; in the long term, OpenAI hopes that everyone will be able to own their own robot to meet their various needs.
