Nextorage, a Japanese storage module manufacturer under Phison, announced today that it will develop an external hardware device tentatively named aiDAPTIV Station, allowing AI laptops equipped with only 32GB of memory to run large artificial intelligence models such as OpenAI's GPT-OSS-120B.
As its name suggests, Nextorage's aiDAPTIV Station supports Phison's aiDAPTIV technology, which enables dynamic resource allocation between the system's DRAM and external high-endurance NAND storage media, effectively expanding memory. It features a portable design, comes with a USB-C interface, and supports the Windows operating system and the Ubuntu distribution of Linux.
Nextorage aims to launch the aiDAPTIV Station in the Japanese market within this year and is also planning a supporting prebuilt software package.
