OpenAI has announced the preview release of the ChatGPT desktop app for Linux, providing direct access to ChatGPT, ChatGPT Work, and Codex on supported Linux systems.
Officially provided are .deb and .rpm installation packages for the x64 and arm64 architectures. Supported Linux distributions are as follows:
Ubuntu 24.04 LTS and 26.04 LTS
Debian 13
Fedora 43 and 44
In July this year, OpenAI announced a new desktop app integrating Codex and ChatGPT. Following an update, the desktop version of Codex became the new ChatGPT desktop app, comprising Chat (conversation), ChatGPT Work (work), and Codex. The updated app retains existing Codex tasks and projects, and users can also select the Codex app icon in Settings.
