Meta published a blog post today (August 6), announcing the beta launch of its first coding AI agent tool, Muse Code, which aims to challenge coding agent tools such as Anthropic's Claude Code and OpenAI's Codex.

Muse Code is the latest achievement of Meta's Chief AI Officer, Alexandr Wang, who leads Meta's Superintelligence Labs and the development of related models. He joined Meta in June 2025 and is one of the key figures in CEO Mark Zuckerberg's overhaul of the company's artificial intelligence strategy.
In an interview with CNBC on Wednesday, Wang said: “Developers only need one command to install Muse Code and use it to handle complete software engineering tasks, covering scenarios such as planning changes, writing code, and validating results.”
In terms of functionality, Muse Code is currently being released as a preview. Wang said that Muse Spark 1.2 was developed and trained in parallel with Muse Code, thereby improving overall coding performance.
In terms of its business model, developers can use Muse Code on a pay-as-you-go basis:
The cost for every 1 million Tokens entered is $1.25 (approximately 8.5 yuan at the current exchange rate),
and the cost for every 1 million Tokens output is $4.25 (approximately 28.7 yuan at the current exchange rate).
Wang said that the coding Agent tool also offers a “contributor tier” subscription, with a significantly lower entry cost—one-tenth or even less than the pay-as-you-go tier. However, developers who choose the lowest-priced tier must actively agree to help improve the model, which involves Meta using third-party data to enhance its underlying technology.
Wang also said that Meta is beginning to accept zero-data retention requests. This means Meta will not retain developer data for model improvement. He called this “a major enterprise feature that is important to many people.”
