According to multiple people familiar with the matter cited today by the Science and Technology Innovation Board Daily, Alibaba’s Qwen model has entered the deep-testing stage for Tesla China’s in-car system and is close to being deployed.
According to the report, Qwen has completed extensive in-vehicle testing in Tesla’s real-world vehicle environment. “Listening and responding, controlling the vehicle, navigating, and handling tasks are all already part of the plan.” In the future, the capabilities Qwen may offer in Tesla’s in-car system could go far beyond the definition of a standalone “voice assistant.”
It is worth noting that leading Chinese automakers have announced at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show that they will integrate Qwen. Based on the disclosed technology roadmap, Qwen’s in-vehicle deployment will have at least three layers of capabilities: first, complex semantic understanding and multi-task route planning; second, an end-to-end service loop connecting “ordering — fulfillment — payment”; and third, coverage of content, lifestyle, and transactions across all scenarios through an edge-cloud collaborative architecture.
As of press time, Alibaba Cloud and Tesla China had not responded to the above rumors.
Tesla China has now announced the in-car software update for version 2026.14.13. It adds the “Doubao Large Model” intelligent voice assistant, which can not only provide real-time information but also engage in natural, fluent conversations. It supports multiple premium voices and can be paired with personalized roles such as “Know-It-All,” “Music Lover,” and “Storytime.”
