Business Insider reported today that Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei said at an event this week that his company hopes to create more value for customers. The Claude AI assistant comes in peace, rather than to destroy other industries.
According to reports, Amodei was seated beside Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff at the time, attempting to calm Wall Street speculation that “Anthropic is trying to take over the entire SaaS (software as a service) industry.”
Amodei said: “We have no intention of destroying anyone. Claude comes in peace.”
At the end of January this year, Anthropic announced the launch of plugins for Claude Cowork, setting in motion what later became known as the “SaaS doomsday.” At the time, the software industry lost approximately 1 trillion USD in market capitalization (note: approximately 6.74 trillion yuan at the current exchange rate).
Since then, however, software companies such as Salesforce have begun to recover their losses. For example, this Thursday was the second-best trading day in Salesforce’s history by share-price performance, surpassed only by the surge during the pandemic.
Amodei believes that Anthropic has always aimed to create value for customers, and that both companies serve a large number of customers. He said the combination is equivalent to “one plus one is greater than three,” creating outcomes with even greater value.
