According to a report by CCTV Finance yesterday, citing the website of U.S. magazine Fortune, the latest report from wealth intelligence firm Altrata shows that the global number of billionaires reached 3,795 in 2025, a historic high. Their combined wealth grew 12.8% year over year to $15.1 trillion (approximately RMB 101.71 trillion at current exchange rates), also setting a new record. This figure is close to one-quarter of the total market capitalization of the companies in the S&P 500.
Among these billionaires, 29 have assets exceeding $50 billion (approximately RMB 336.788 billion at current exchange rates), including Larry Page, Elon Musk, and Jeff Bezos.
Specifically, the AI investment boom is the primary driver of billionaire wealth growth, with the fortunes of many technology billionaires increasing substantially as their companies expand their artificial intelligence businesses.
Billionaires are most inclined to allocate their wealth to sports and philanthropy. A total of 201 billionaires own sports organizations or invest in sports franchises.
The report notes that investing in professional sports teams not only highlights the scale of their wealth but also allows them to expand their social networks through these channels. Meanwhile, philanthropic investment has become one way for billionaires to use their wealth and social influence to give back to society and promote innovation in certain fields.
