Anthropic announced an update to the memory system shared by Claude Cowork and chat. The update connects the two systems’ memory features for unified management.
Anthropic said: “Cowork now has memory, and it uses the same memory as your chats. This means you don’t need to repeatedly explain background information, and Claude can better continue the work you were doing.”
Anthropic further explained that when Cowork performs tasks in the cloud, it can access information Claude has remembered from the user’s chat history. Conversely, relevant memories created in Cowork can also be used in chats.
Anthropic also emphasized that memory for sensitive topics is disabled by default, though users can enable it manually.
The company explained: “By default, Claude will not save information considered sensitive, such as health conditions and personal beliefs, to memory. However, if these happen to be topics you do not want to explain repeatedly, you can enable the relevant option in the ‘Memory’ settings.”
Anthropic said that memory is available to both free and paid users, with support also available on Mac and iOS.
Anthropic said: “Memory is enabled by default for the Free, Pro, and Max plans on the web, desktop, and mobile. Note that memory for sensitive topics remains disabled by default. On iOS and Android, users need to update the mobile app to the latest version to receive the latest feature updates.”
