About three weeks after the release of the GPT-5.6 series (released on July 9), OpenAI today (July 31) announced reduced usage fees for the GPT-5.6 Terra and GPT-5.6 Luna models. This adjustment does not affect the GPT-5.6 Sol model for now.

Regarding the reason for the fee reduction, OpenAI stated in its official blog post that expanding access to advanced intelligence is the company’s core mission. By continuously lowering customer costs, it aims to ensure that artificial general intelligence (AGI) benefits all of humanity.
OpenAI hopes to give back to users through the price cuts and help ensure that every dollar they invest in AI delivers value. OpenAI aims to provide businesses with a more cost-effective way to handle large volumes of high-quality work.
In the blog post, OpenAI also shared a performance comparison chart from the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index v4.1. It shows that, in terms of the cost per completed task, the GPT-5.6 Luna model delivers more cutting-edge intelligent performance at a lower price, outperforming the DeepSeek V4 Pro model.
