According to CCTV News, the national finals of the humanoid robot category of the 28th China Robot and Artificial Intelligence Competition (CRAIC) officially kicked off today (August 1) at Beijing Shougang Park.
The competition venue covers 2,800 square meters and can accommodate nearly 350 humanoid robots competing on the same stage. This year's event has undergone a major upgrade: all full-size humanoid robot competition venues have completely eliminated remote-control equipment, meaning participating robots must rely entirely on their autonomous movement and decision-making capabilities to complete the entire competition.
In terms of event design, tasks including walking across complex terrain, sorting precision components, and operating buttons have been reproduced at a 1:1 scale in a real production environment, allowing humanoid robots to undergo practical testing in physical scenarios beyond the laboratory.
At the same time, the competition evaluates the robots' coordination between their “large and small brains”: they must coordinate their limbs to walk stably and grasp objects precisely, while also understanding work instructions autonomously and correctly determining the objects to be operated on and their quantities. These tests are intended to accelerate the adoption of humanoid robots in real-world applications, enabling them to assist humans with high-risk and highly challenging tasks in the future.
CRAIC is a national robotics science and technology innovation competition specifically for students enrolled at schools across the country. This year, more than 200 teams advanced to the national finals, jointly competing for the championship title.
