Spotify announced today that starting in September, the platform will gradually roll out the “AI Persona” label to help users identify singers who appear to be real people but are actually generated by AI.
Spotify said the new feature is being introduced in response to listener demand. Currently, most users cannot accept singers who appear to be real people but are actually generated by AI.
Starting today, AI creators can visit Spotify for Artists to proactively identify themselves as having an “AI Persona.” The platform will also review artist profiles and label artists suspected of being AI-generated.
By default, artists labeled as having an “AI Persona” will not be included in algorithmic recommendations. If an artist is mislabeled, users can file an appeal.
Spotify will prioritize showcasing music by real artists to avoid recommending low-quality AI spam to users. Its recommendation system will focus on supporting singers who are building careers in the music industry under their real identities.
