According to a report by Business Insider today (the 30th), Scale AI founder, current head of Meta's Superintelligence Labs and Chief AI Officer Alexandr Wang believes that AI has dramatically narrowed the gap in capabilities between startups and large enterprises, making it easier than ever to challenge industry giants.

Speaking at an event hosted by Y Combinator, Wang said that AI has changed the fundamental rules of competition for startups. “For those with dreams, vision, and ambition who hope to shape the future world with their own hands by building outstanding products, this may be the only opportunity in the entire history of civilization.”
Wang recalled that when he founded an AI training company in 2016, startups were still at a clear disadvantage when competing against industry giants. “Competition in the past was like David challenging Goliath. Startups had to be smarter, find the right market entry point, and figure out how to compete with far fewer resources than their rivals. As agents and other AI technologies continue to develop, I believe the situation is now closer to Goliath versus Goliath.”
Wang's Scale AI was one of the earliest companies to enter the data-labeling sector. It employed thousands of contractors worldwide to screen and rank AI responses for large AI labs and participate in model training. In June last year, Meta reached a deal with Scale AI valued at $14.3 billion (note: approximately 968.63 billion yuan at the current exchange rate). Wang subsequently left Scale AI and joined Meta.
Wang added that as long as startups use AI agents “in the most ambitious way,” it is not difficult to defeat large enterprises that already hold a market advantage. AI agents can independently execute tasks involving multiple steps, from writing code to handling customer service.
