Anthropic announced on the 10th local time that the Claude Sonnet 5 artificial intelligence model it launched at the end of June this year will permanently maintain its launch promotional price. The original price scheduled to take effect on September 1 has been canceled.
The current price of Claude Sonnet 5 is $2 per million input Tokens and $10 per million output Tokens. The previously planned “original price” was $3 / $15, representing a 50% increase.
Claude Sonnet 5 was released on June 30, 2026, and is Anthropic’s most agentic Sonnet model to date. The model has a 1 million Token context window, a maximum output of 128K Tokens, and a knowledge cutoff date of January 2026. Compared with the previous-generation Sonnet 4.6, it delivers significant improvements in reasoning, tool use, programming, and knowledge work. It performs exceptionally well on evaluations including the agentic search benchmark BrowseComp and the computer-use benchmark OSWorld-Verified, with performance on some tasks approaching that of the flagship Opus 4.8. In the SWE-bench Verified programming evaluation, Sonnet 5 achieved a score of 85.20%.
For enterprise customers and agentic AI developers, the long-term stability of API pricing is becoming an important consideration when deploying AI workflows. In scenarios such as software development, research, and browser automation, agentic tasks typically require multiple model calls, causing Token costs to accumulate rapidly as task complexity increases. By canceling the price increase, Anthropic has provided enterprises that have built workflows based on Sonnet 5 with more stable long-term cost expectations. This is also viewed as part of Anthropic’s strategy of shifting from a pure performance comparison toward broader cost competitiveness in the AI model market.
