The Second World Humanoid Robot Games will open in Beijing on August 22. According to CCTV News, the cable connection preliminaries concluded today, with 14 of the 24 participating teams advancing to the final.
According to organizers, the challenge lies in the fact that a USB connector has a correct and an incorrect orientation. The robot must first identify the correct side, as the connection task can only be completed when the connector is properly aligned with the charging port. Applying downward pressure also requires a certain amount of force, testing not only the material of the robot’s fingers but also the precision and strength of its grip.
Under the competition rules, each team has 10 minutes to prepare after reaching its designated competition area. The robot must then connect eight data cables to their plugs within five minutes. Each completed connection earns one point, for a maximum score of eight.
As IT Home previously reported, this year’s World Humanoid Robot Games will be held from August 22 to 26 at the National Speed Skating Oval, also known as the “Ice Ribbon.” A total of 1,301 matches across 51 events will be held, attracting 666 teams with 2,056 robots. Both the event lineup and field of competitors have been significantly expanded and upgraded, with new high-intensity competitive events including long jump, weightlifting, tug-of-war, and table tennis. The Games’ mascot, “Zhibao,” was also unveiled at the venue.
Internationally, teams from traditional robotics powerhouses such as the United States, Germany, and Japan are actively participating. Brazil has also assembled five RoboCup soccer teams to form a joint national squad for the Games.
Domestically, 641 teams and 1,975 robots from 157 companies and 200 universities and research institutions have gathered for the competition. All of China’s leading robotics companies are in attendance, while 27 Project 985 universities are participating, bringing together stakeholders from industry, academia, research, and application.
