Microsoft’s new Copilot icon was recently accidentally revealed in the Edge Canary test browser. The new icon has a simpler design that moves toward a flatter style.

X user @Leopeva64 revealed this Tuesday that the icon originally came from the “Edge Icon Refresh” flag in the Edge Canary test browser, suggesting that Microsoft is testing a new icon. The icon subsequently appeared briefly in some menus in the Canary version of Edge, but was later removed by Microsoft.

X user @minto494 also discovered that the new Copilot icon had appeared in the new Microsoft 365 productivity apps.

Images shared by users show that the new icon emphasizes a simple design language. Its color and shape are not much different from those of the current Copilot, but the 3D shadow effect has been removed, making it flatter.

Given the strong trend toward flat design in the tech industry today, Microsoft’s move is not surprising. However, IT Home points out that we still cannot determine when the new icon will officially launch. We will have to wait for Microsoft’s official announcement.
