OpenRouter, the world’s largest AI aggregation platform, posted on X yesterday (August 17), announcing that the usage fees for OpenAI’s most powerful model, GPT-5.6 Sol, had been cut in half.
The price adjustments are as follows:
Before the adjustment, input cost $5 per 1 million tokens (approximately 33.8 yuan at the current exchange rate), while output cost $30 per 1 million tokens (approximately 202.6 yuan at the current exchange rate).
After the adjustment, input cost $2.5 per 1 million tokens (approximately 16.9 yuan at the current exchange rate), while output cost $15 per 1 million tokens (approximately 101.3 yuan at the current exchange rate).
Besides OpenRouter, for which no information about a limited-time offer has been found so far, another hosting platform, Vercel, has also announced a limited-time half-price offer. It is valid for 1 month, lasting until September 18, 2026, and applies to both Standard and Fast modes.
Industry analysis outlet @SemiAnalysis_ believes this is a clever marketing strategy. The two platforms mentioned above are major data sources for evaluating AI models, so the half-price discount will attract more users to the GPT-5.6 Sol model.
