CME Group announced locally on the 11th that it plans to work with Silicon Data, a GPU market intelligence and benchmarking company, to launch two computing futures contracts based on NVIDIA AI GPU rental prices.
The two contracts are named the “Silicon Data H100 Rental Index Futures” and “Silicon Data B200 Rental Index Futures.” Each contract represents the cost of renting the corresponding GPU for one month. The new futures contracts are targeted for an official launch on October 5 at the New York Mercantile Exchange and are currently awaiting regulatory review.
CME Group said the new financial instruments give businesses a way to manage computing costs and smooth sharp fluctuations in computing-power prices, improving transparency in the computing market and providing a valuable window for forecasting future artificial intelligence spending.

Carmen Li, CEO of Silicon Data, said:
For years, two companies could purchase exactly the same amount of GPU capacity yet pay vastly different prices, with no way to determine which company had secured the better deal. Now, they finally have a benchmark they can use to compare prices.
Computing futures bring something unprecedented to the market: a public, tradable reference price covering the resources required to run all artificial intelligence systems.
Silicon Data’s benchmark makes this price tangible; CME Group makes it tradable. Together, they transform computing resources from something businesses negotiate over blindly into a market that businesses can use for planning.
