According to a report by technology media outlet The Decoder today, applications for interim relief before UK employment tribunals are growing rapidly. More and more employees are using ChatGPT or Grok to draft claims for free, rather than hiring lawyers.
A joint memorandum issued by Barry Clarke, President of the UK Employment Tribunals, and Susan Walker shows that the number of cases accepted by the tribunal increased by 39% this March, while the number of pending cases rose by 55%.
Many AI-generated claims are hundreds of pages long and are filled with laws that do not exist at all, as well as unrealistic demands. However, the situation could worsen in the future: the UK Labour government's newly introduced Employment Rights Bill adds 25 grounds for complaint while removing compensation caps for some cases.
Employees who have genuinely suffered unfair treatment may have to wait even longer to receive relief because of the case backlog.
