According to a Bloomberg report on the 8th, Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong said in his National Day message on the eve of Singapore’s 61st anniversary of independence that the rapid development of artificial intelligence is bringing new growth opportunities to Singapore. In response to concerns among some workers that AI could threaten their jobs and livelihoods, the government will leverage new technologies to boost productivity while creating higher-quality jobs.

Lawrence Wong said: “New technological breakthroughs are creating opportunities that were unimaginable just a few years ago, but they are also bringing new challenges and problems. When others move forward, we cannot stand still, but neither can we accept every new technology without question. Singapore will embrace these advances according to its own needs.”

Regarding children’s online safety, Lawrence Wong said that the government would also establish stricter protective measures to help children live safely and responsibly in the digital world.

Preliminary data showed that Singapore’s gross domestic product grew 5.7% year on year in the second quarter, slowing from 6.3% in the first quarter. Singapore’s Ministry of Trade and Industry currently expects the economy to grow by 2% to 4% this year.
