How to Turn Any Topic into a Two-Minute Audio Course with Claudemy

What Is Claudemy?

Claudemy is a free, open-source Claude Code skill that turns any well-documented topic into a short audio course. Instead of browsing a fixed catalog, you describe what you want to learn and Claude researches the web, compares sources, and creates a structured set of lessons.

A typical course contains about 12 lessons, each approximately two minutes long. Every lesson includes two hosts, an MP3 recording, a concise study card, one practical exercise, and links to the sources used.

Claudemy is designed for focused learning. It builds a course around the topic and level you request rather than asking you to commit to a long, pre-recorded program.

What Claudemy Produces

  • Audio lessons: About 12 two-minute MP3 lessons featuring two voices in conversation.
  • Lesson cards: A three-line explanation, source agreement information, dissenting viewpoints, one small practice, and further-reading links.
  • A playbook: One practical rule from each lesson, collected into a file for later reference.
  • A lesson plan: The course structure, including decisions and areas where experts disagree.
  • Citations: Links to the pages used during research. A checker rejects lessons that cite pages the research process did not actually read.

How the Research and Course Creation Process Works

  1. Topic mapping: Claudemy divides your topic into sub-topics based on how the subject is commonly taught.
  2. Web research: It gathers approximately 20 to 40 pages from practitioners, official documentation, research summaries, and dissenting sources. It uses no more than three pages from one site to reduce dependence on a single perspective.
  3. Reading and comparison: Reader agents extract notes from cited pages, and another agent combines them into themes with agreement counts.
  4. Course planning: The material is arranged into arcs of roughly four lessons, beginning with foundations.
  5. Sample lesson: Claudemy creates one lesson first and waits for your reaction before writing and recording the rest.

Installation and Requirements

You need Claude Code with web search enabled. You also need Python 3, the beautifulsoup4 package, and ffmpeg.

Install the Python dependency with:

pip install beautifulsoup4

For natural two-voice audio, set an ElevenLabs API key in ELEVENLABS_API_KEY. If you do not provide an ElevenLabs key, Claudemy uses the built-in macOS voices instead. Those voices are free but less natural.

You can optionally install pandoc if you want a Word copy of the lesson cards.

Install Claudemy as a Claude Code Plugin

The simplest installation method is to add the Claudemy marketplace and install the plugin:

/plugin marketplace add assafkip/claudemy
/plugin install claudemy@claudemy

Alternatively, copy the skills/claudemy/ directory into:

~/.claude/skills/

You can also download the distributed skill file from dist/claudemy.skill.

Create Your First Course

After installation, open Claude Code and describe the topic you want to study. Keep the first request simple and specific:

teach me negotiation

Claudemy maps the subject, researches relevant sources, and prepares a sample lesson. Review that initial lesson and provide feedback before the remaining lessons are produced.

You can use the same pattern for practical skills, professional topics, or subjects that are well covered on the open web:

teach me pricing
teach me SQL
teach me public speaking
teach me music theory

The resulting course is based on current sources and includes links so you can investigate important ideas further.

Build a Course from One Expert

Claudemy can also focus on the work of a particular person instead of combining many perspectives. Include the expert's name in your request:

teach me negotiation from <name>'s writing

Claudemy looks for that person's Substack or blog and builds the class from their writing.

Configure the Audio Voices

For ElevenLabs audio, set the voice IDs with CLAUDEMY_VOICE_A and CLAUDEMY_VOICE_B. These variables control the two voices used in the lessons.

CLAUDEMY_VOICE_A=your_voice_id_a
CLAUDEMY_VOICE_B=your_voice_id_b

On macOS, you can configure the built-in voices with:

CLAUDEMY_SAY_A=your_mac_voice_a
CLAUDEMY_SAY_B=your_mac_voice_b

Audio is optional. The cards and playbook remain useful even when you generate no audio, and macOS users can use the built-in voices without an ElevenLabs subscription.

Advanced Tips for Better Results

Give Claudemy a Clear Learning Target

Because the course is generated from your request, describe the subject you actually need. A focused request such as teach me negotiation for salary discussions gives the course a more practical direction than a broad request alone.

Use the Sample Lesson for Feedback

Claudemy intentionally creates one sample lesson before producing the full course. Use this stage to correct the level, emphasis, or style you want. This helps the remaining lessons match your needs.

Compare Agreement and Disagreement

Do not treat source agreement as proof that an idea is universally correct. Review the lesson cards and lesson plan to see how many sources support an idea and where experts disagree. The research process is designed to make those differences visible.

Keep the Playbook Nearby

The playbook gathers one rule from each lesson into a single file. Use it as a compact review document after listening to the course and completing the suggested practices.

Check the Citations

Each lesson links to the pages used to create it. Follow the links when you need more context, especially for advice that depends on your situation. Claudemy also checks that cited pages were actually read during research.

Important Considerations

Claudemy works best for topics that people write about extensively on the open web, including skills, professional subjects, and general areas of study. Health, legal, and financial topics may include notes explaining that advice depends on individual circumstances.

The project does not copy source content. It reads web pages as a researcher would, writes original lessons, and links back to the sources. Pages are saved only in your local workspace for your own study.

A 12-lesson course is a long-running Claude Code session involving research, reading, writing, and approximately 25 minutes of generated audio. Plan to keep the session available while the course is being created.

Conclusion

Claudemy provides a flexible way to learn a specific topic without subscribing to a fixed course catalog. Install it as a Claude Code plugin, ask it to teach a subject, review the sample lesson, and let it turn researched material into short audio lessons, cards, a playbook, and a source-aware lesson plan. The project is MIT licensed and free to use, modify, and share.
